GS1 Lanka’s journey began in 1995, when it was first established as EAN Sri Lanka under The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, during the EAN General Assembly held in May that year. As international trade and technology continued to evolve, the organization embraced a broader vision and rebranded to GS1. This global transition was officially announced at the GS1 Global Forum in Brussels on 14th February 2005, marking the official transformation of EAN Sri Lanka into GS1 Sri Lanka. Continuing its growth and institutional development, the organization was formally incorporated on 22nd November 2016, under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007 as a company limited by guarantee, now operating as GS1 Lanka.
In today’s dynamic and rapidly changing business environment, where individuals and organizations perceive and respond to challenges in different ways, GS1 Lanka plays a vital role in bringing clarity, consistency, and efficiency to business communication.
